Fleurieu Peninsula. A growers’ paradise with rich fertile soils, temperate climate and reliable rainfall, the lifestyle here is governed by the rhythms of the seasons, the food is good, fresh and full of flavour.
Row upon row of stately vines bear testament to the region’s
international reputation as a fine wine producing area, led by the
renowned McLaren Vale wine region, with Langhorne Creek, Currency Creek
and Southern Fleurieu gaining widespread recognition. But look beyond
the wineries and you’ll find a strong farming tradition, nestled
among long-established almond and olive groves. Here livestock and
dairy cattle graze freely over lush green hills, while fruit trees
in numerous small, family-run orchards hang heavy with their ripening
crops. On warm summer nights, the air is richly perfumed as ancient
scents of acacia and eucalypt mingle with the more recent aromas of
basil, sage and thyme from many a kitchen garden.
