Fleurieu farmers first planted olives as vineyard boundaries from about 1880, but modern producers are far more sophisticated. Indeed, olives are the Fleurieu’s largest agricultural product behind wine grapes and are available everywhere across the region.
Fleurieu Peninsula Olive Awards
The Fleurieu Peninsula Food Olive Awards is an annual event designed to assist in the development of regional distinction for varieties predominantly grown on the Fleurieu Peninsula and attract national entries.
After the official judging for the Fleurieu Olive awards during October of each year, the highest scoring oils will be offered for tasting for the “Punters’ Pick”.
This is a people’s choice award heald at the Victor Harbor Farmers Market and Willunga Farmers Market. Visitors to these farmers markets will be asked to taste, fill in a simple form and rate the oils in order of preference.
